In 2018, Tess Posthumus of the Amsterdam cocktail bar Flying Dutchmen Cocktails was crowned best ‘barwoman’ in the world by the 'International Bartender of the Year' awards. In her new book Masterclass Cocktails she shares her greatest tips and tricks. "Putting together a great cocktail is not rocket science, anyone can do it", she told local newspaper AD after the release. Tess shares her version of a White Russian with us.
WHITE RUSSIAN
Ingredients: 60 ml vodka / 30 ml cream / 30 ml coffee liqueur
Garnish: orange slices and maraschino cherries
Method: shake
Glass: rock glass
Preparation
- Pour the cream into a cocktail shaker and shake hard. Do not use ice cubes. You want to whip the cream up a bit by shaking it. The cream has to increase by about half in quantity, due to the air you add by shaking.
- Pour the vodka and coffee liqueur in a second shaker tin.
- Fill this second shaker tin with ice cubes and shake hard.
- Fill a rock glass with ice cubes.
- Fine strain the cocktail into the glass.
- Float the whipped cream on top of the cocktail.
- Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
