1. Public Space
In Amsterdam North, five minutes by ferry from Central Station, David Gillies opened on the ground floor of a modern residential tower in 2018 café and restaurant Public Space together with his friends Jacco Verburg, Menno de Geest and Michael Kempff. The large open space filled with vintage Danish design furniture was to become a place where people loved to get together. A Victoria Arduino Black Eagle espresso machine shines away at the bar and all espressos are prepared with a naked filter. “With the naked filter we manage to pull a double shot, which is better balanced and well extracted”, the half South-African, half Scottish David explains.
Also in times of Coronavirus, Public Space works with coffees from internationally renowned coffee roasters. The newest coffee comes from the Berlin roastery The Barn. Besides coffee, the special menu includes homemade salads, sourdough sandwiches, cinnamon buns and more treats to be enjoyed at home. Payments go through the webshop, so order in advance or make sure to bring your phone! Don’t want to leave your house at all? Don’t worry, Public Space also offers delivery.
Opening Hours: Wednesday to Sunday 9.00 - 16.00
Address: Bercylaan 301
2. The Coffee District
Since September 2019, The Coffee District has been wowing the crowds not only with their visually stunning Instagram feed, but foremost with their coffees and fine lifestyle products, such as coffee mugs from the circular brand Huskee Cup or the slow coffee set by Kinto. Located in the South, the regulars of this modern café slash concept store by Adil and Rosa Loukane will not mind to walk a little more to enjoy a coffee to-go, roasted by the Amsterdam roastery Lot Sixty One. On the website you can also find all the beautiful equipment you need to make a great filter coffee at home. Since we all have to slow down, this is the perfect time to start with slow coffee.
Opening Hours: Daily from 9.00 - 15.00
Address: Hendrik Jacobszstraat 18
3. 4850nl
A well-loved hotspot with locals and tourists alike is 4850nl. The restaurant in Amsterdam East is the brainchild of the Swedish Daniel Schein. Schein gained barista experience at Rikard Andersson's Scandinavian Embassy and worked for a year as a sommelier at Belgian Michelin-star restaurant In de Wulf. He decided to combine coffee and wine in the new 4850nl.
Since March, a new head chef, Túbo Logier, runs the kitchen. His signature dishes plus coffee and wine can still be enjoyed. Coffee to-go can be ordered on the spot at 4850nl. The selection of wines and the dinner menu can be found in the webshop. 4850nl also has a great action: with a 'caffè sospeso' you can buy a coffee for yourself and a coffee for a care worker at the nearby OLVG hospital. That's support!
Opening Hours:
Coffee: Wednesday to Sunday 9.00 - 16.00
Dinner: Thursday to Sunday 13.00-20.00
Address: Motorhome street 48-50
4. Monks Coffee Roasters
Irish owner Patrick Abbott, who spent years working and living in Australia, but eventually found his home in Amsterdam with his Dutch wife, opened the doors of Monks Coffee Roasters in August 2016. "Amsterdam has crawled under my skin. We bring our coffees around on the electric cargo bike. I love it." The Monks menu features a small selection of Melbourne-style breakfast and lunch dishes, and from the display at the bar all kinds of homemade cakes try to catch your eye. During the lockdown you can pick up one of these tasty cakes together with a coffee to-go. For six months Monks is roasting its own coffee from a roastery near Sloterdijk. So make sure to grab your coffee beans for home.

5. Schuurmanoomkensgrassotti

The coffee- and wine bar, which the owners of white label coffee on the Jan Evertsenstraat founded at the end of 2018 together with their new partner Barry Schuurman, welcomes regulars every morning until 2 pm. If you are in need for coffee beans, a nice bottle of wine, coffee to-go and pastries.
